Growth hormone deficiency is a rare disease characterized by low secretions of growth hormone from the anterior pituitary gland present at the base of the brain.
Growth Hormone Deficiency types:
GHD may be present since birth due to a genetic mutation or development problems in the brain, GHD may be due to a later development in life due to a trauma, infection, radiotherapy, or brain tumors and it may be idiopathic or without a known reason, GHD in children may be one of these three types.
Growth Hormone Deficiency Symptoms :
- Short stature.
- Delayed growth.
- Delay in growth of bones in accordance with age.
- But in case it takes place after puberty, it is probably caused by one of the following:
- Pituitary tumor.
- Brain injury.
- Or idiopathic.
- Symptoms in cases of occurrence after puberty are as follows:
- Muscle weakness.
- High cholesterol levels.
- High insulin resistance.
- Weak cardiac functions.
Growth Hormone Deficiency Treatment:
All types of GHD are treated with daily injections of recombinant Human growth hormone.
